Drew Smith

As a native of Idaho Falls, Drew was inspired since early childhood by the beauty of the surrounding Intermountain Region. The Tetons, Snake River, and a few local wetlands became magical destinations with sounds of wind in the reeds or migrating waterfowl that still echo through Drew’s childhood memories. Painting became the medium through which Drew expressed his fascination with the outdoors and he remembers the ease he experienced spending countless hours painting at his parents’ kitchen table.

“This early foundation has been critical to my development as an artist and I hope my motive for painting will always be as pure and clear as I remember it being then.”

Indeed, painting came naturally to Drew at an early age and he excelled in his middle and high school art classes. Drew attended Ricks College, now BYU Idaho, and was accepted to Utah State University’s art program, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art.

As a professional painter, Drew has participated in the Montana Land Reliance show, “Artists for Open Spaces,” as well as the “Treasure State Art Show” and the “CM Russell Exhibition and Sale,” where he demonstrates in the CM Russell Quick Draw. Drew is also selected to perform his quick draws at the “Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival.” Recognized in Southwest Art Magazine as an “Artist to Watch,” Drew placed second in the Utah Duck Stamp Competition. His work is showcased in exclusive galleries in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah.

“As I improve and simplify, I feel capable of stronger, more dramatic paintings and I am grateful that my response to nature while in the field continues to mature and intensify.”
