Kristen Douglas-Seitz

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Kristen Douglas-Seitz is most passionate about cultivating connection in communities through art and teaching. She is best known for her bronze animal sculptures such as the K9 Bane monument at the Saint Francis Civic Center in Wisconsin and the Remington monument of Independence, Kansas.

Growing up fostering and training animals has always captivated her. Observing and understanding animals' behavior patterns and communication styles have profoundly influenced her artistic journey. By focusing on these elements, she sculpts them with realism and detail. Her work powerfully illustrates the significance of our connection with animals and the transformative impact they have on our lives.

BIO:
Kristen, a native of Oklahoma, attributes her earliest creative inspiration to the city of Tulsa. She is a representational wildlife bronze sculptor who seeks to inspire admiration and preservation of wildlife and natural spaces in her work. Kristen's passion for the outdoors stems from family nature outings and attending wildlife art shows.

In 2016, she apprenticed under Jocelyn Russell, a nationally renowned artist and major mentor whom she has followed since she was nine years old. As part of a monument project, Kristen helped create life-size elephants and lions for the New Orleans Audubon Zoo.

Kristen's works have been awarded in National Juried Exhibitions, including the American Plains Artists Show and Sale, 64 Arts, and Nature Works. She continues to work with Jocelyn Russell on monumental public work installations and at her studio on San Juan Island, Washington. Kristen’s public installations of iconic canines such as Remington of Independence Kansas and Bane of St. Francis Wisconsin are gaining national attention.

Kristen is skilled in bronze metal chasing, tooling, and patinas. She collaborates with Jocelyn's husband, Michael Dubail, a professional welder and metal chaser, to create bronze metalwork. When she is not working on her art, Kristen travels to various art shows and is passionate about teaching workshops nationwide to share her knowledge of the trade.
